Location: Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU), The University of Tokyo
5-1-5 Kashiwa-no-ha, Kashiwa city, Chiba, 277-8583 JAPAN
Room: Lecture Hall

The meeting will be held at Kavli IPMU on the University of Tokyo campus in Kashiwa.  Kashiwa is located about 10 km northeast of Tokyo. There are two airports that service the Tokyo area, Narita airport and Haneda airport.   The directions to Kashiwa will depend on the airport, so please find the appropriate directions below.

There are two train stations in Kashiwa, the JR Kashiwa Station and the Tsukuba Express (TX) Kashiwanoha Campus Station.  If you are staying at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kashiwanoha, Hotel Del Prado or Hotel Sunoak Kashiwanoha, you will travel to the Kashiwanoha Campus Station.  If you are staying at Crest Hotel Kashiwa, Kashiwa Plaza Hotel, Sotetsu Fresa Inn Chiba-Kashiwa or other hotels in central Kashiwa, you will travel to the JR Kashiwa Station.  Bus routes from both stations to the University of Tokyo campus are listed below.  Routes from both airports to both train stations are also listed.

For train and bus transport, most lines (including the local buses in Kashiwa) will accept the Suica or Pasmo IC Cards, which allow for payment of fares by tapping a card reader.  Either Suica or Pasmo cards can be purchased at most train stations.  Some express trains will require the purchase of an additional express fare ticket beyond the base fare, so simply tapping your IC card will not be sufficient.  Local Tobu buses from Kashiwa or Kashiwanoha Campus Stations  accept the IC cards.  You simply need to tap the card readers when entering and exiting the bus.  If you pay by coin, collect a paper slip when entering the bus which specifies your starting bus stop.  Use the display at the front of the bus to determine your owed fair when you exit the bus.  Payment is made at the front of the bus when exiting.

  • By Train to Kashiwa Station

Ther are two ways to travel by train from Narita Airport to the JR Kashiwa station shown below. To find the station locations in Narita airport, please see the page for Narita airport. The Keisei Line has a rapid train service, the Skyliner Airport Express, between Narita Airport and Nippori Station. You can catch about two trains per hour to Nippori Station (time table) and there are frequent trains from Nippori to Kashiwa (More information). Please do not confuse the Skyliner Airport Express with the JR Narita Express, which is a train that services downtown Tokyo.

  • By Airport Bus to Kashiwa Station and Kashiwanoha Campus Station

Take the Narita Koku Kotsu Airport bus at the No. 5 bus stop in Terminal 1 or at the No. 12 bus stop in Terminal 2. The bus's final destination is Matsudo Station, and it stops at Kashiwa Station and Kashiwanoha Campus Station. The airport bus departs only every two hours. One-way tickets cost 1,700 yen and can be purchased in the Terminal area after leaving customs and immigration.  It takes about 110 minutes from Narita to Kashiwa. See the link here for details.

Access from Haneda Airport

  • By train to Kashiwa Station

From the Haneda Airport International Terminal station, take the Tokyo-Monorail towards Hamamatsucho Station.  At Hamamatsucho Station, change to the JR Keihintohoku line or JR Yamanote line towards Tokyo station.  At Ueno Station, change to the JR Joban line towards Tsuchiara/Narita/Toride/Mito/Katsuta or.  Exit the JR Joban line at Kashiwa Station.
