Getting to Kavli IPMU

Access to IPMU

The workshop will be held at Kavli IPMU on the University of Tokyo campus in Kashiwa. Kashiwa is located about 10 km north-east of Tokyo. There are two airports that service the Tokyo area, viz., Narita airport and Haneda airport.

From Kashiwanoha-campus Station
The nearest station to Kashiwa campus is the Kashiwanoha-campus station, serviced by the Tsukuba Express (TX). This station is convenient for those who stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Kashiwanoha, Hotel Del Prado or Hotel Sunoak Kashiwanoha. IPMU is about a 20-25 minute walk (on average) from the station.

There is a shuttle bus facility provided by the University of Tokyo:    http://www.k.u-tokyo.ac.jp/gsfs/shuttle-bus/2017shuttlebus_e.pdf .

Public bus transportation from Kashiwanoha-campus station is available, too. Take either #03 or #04 bus from the bus stop #1 at the West Exit outside the station and get off at National Cancer Center ("Kokuritsu Gan Senta"). You can also take the #10 bus from the same bus stop and get off at Todai-mae.

From Kashiwa Station

Kashiwa station is convenient for those who stay at Crest Hotel Kashiwa, Kashiwa Plaza Hotel, Sotetsu Fresa Inn Chiba-Kashiwa or other hotels in central Kashiwa. Take either #44 or #01 bus bound for National Cancer Center from the bus stop #2 in front of McDonalds, West Exit of JR Kashiwa Station and get off at Todai-mae or the last stop.

IC Cards for easy transportaion

For train and bus transport, most lines (including the local buses in Kashiwa) will accept either Suica or Pasmo IC Cards, which allow for quick and easy payment of fares by tapping a card reader. These cards can be purchased at most train stations.  Some express trains will require the purchase of an additional express fare tickets beyond the base fare, so simply tapping your IC card will not be sufficient.  Local Tobu buses from Kashiwa or Kashiwanoha Campus Stations also accept IC cards. You simply need to tap the card readers when entering and exiting the bus.  If you do not have this card, you can pay by cash/coin as well. To do so, when you enter the bus you will see a paper token dispenser. Collect a token when you board the bus; said token specifies where you started your journey. Hand this token to the driver when you want to exit and pay the fare by cash/coin.
