The Gdfather is reborn (Mark's 60th birthday)

We are delighted to announce the upcoming workshop “The Gd Father is Reborn”, which will take place at Kavli IPMU from April 23–25, 2025.

This workshop will reflect on the remarkable achievements of Super-Kamiokande and its ongoing contributions to neutrino physics. There has been a close collaboration between researchers here at Kavli IPMU, ICRR next door, and the world. In particular, the addition of gadolinium has significantly enhanced the sensitivity of Super-Kamiokande, bringing us closer to detecting the long-sought supernova relic neutrino background. The ever-tireless Prof. Mark Vagins and his colleagues initiated gadolinium loading and turned the idea into a reality over 20 years ago. Let's take this opportunity to look back at the beginning of this exploration and explore future directions.

As this workshop also coincides with Prof. Vagins’ 60th birthday and his rebirth, we hope to make it a meaningful occasion to celebrate both the scientific progress and the people who made it possible.
