Overview:
- The new generation of CMB B-mode experiments is designed to achieve exceedingly low noise with large detector arrays. Given the prospective sensitivity, it will be a challenge to control systematic effects at an unprecedented level of accuracy. There is no perfect instrument so we will have to understand the systematic effects, minimize their impact through careful instrument design, measure them through calibration, and mitigate them in data analysis. We are hosting a workshop that addresses the new challenges of systematics and calibration in CMB experiments and prospects for ongoing and future primordial B-mode measurements from the ground, from balloons, and in space. This workshop will take place in online form, and will be held in both US—Japan and Europe—Japan friendly times to maximize the convenience for a broad range of international participants.
Topics to cover includes:
- Beam calibration and systematics, from ground, balloon, and space.
- Bandpass measurements, uncertainties, and errors in foregrounds cleaning.
- Polarization angle calibration, its dependence on frequency, and impact on foregrounds cleaning
- Electronics defects
- Calibration equipment and related R&D.
- Systematics mitigation by data analysis techniques.
