Directions to the Venue

Access to Conference Venue

If you are unfamiliar with the area, the simplest option is to travel with somebody who knows the Japanese system here. But in case you decide to travel yourself, here are some descriptions.

Outline

While there are multiple methods to reach our conference venue, the basic structure is that we have three segments:

(1) Airport -> Shinjuku station

(2) Shinjuku station -> Mt. Fuji station (Fujisan station)

(3) Mt. Fuji station -> Conference venue

[Let me note that there are also buses from the Tokyo station instead of the Shunjuku station. In this case you need to substitute Tokyo station for Shunjuku station.]

Useful Resources

Airport -> Shinjuku

  • Tokyo has two airpots, Narita and Haneda. For the conference venue Haneda is slightly more convenient, although the flights tend to be slightly more expensive there.
  • From Narita Airport: take a limited express train called "Narita Express", which takes about 80 minutes to reach Shinjuku station. Otherwise Keisei line (Keisei Skyliner) is in my impression more frequent, in which case you can transfer to Shinjuku via the JR Yamanote line (green line).
  • From Haneda Airport: take a Tokyo Monorail for Hamamatsucho station and change to the JR Yamanote Line (green line) for Shinjuku station.

Shinjuku -> Mt. Fuji Station

You can either take a bus or train. We recommend taking a bus over a train.

  • Bus (approximately 2 hours):
    • Bus terminal: go to the bus terminal of Shinjuku(新宿)station. The bus terminal is on the south. If you are on the JR line, then you can exit e.g. from the "New South Gate", and the bus terminal is a few minute's walk.
    • The bus is "富士五湖線", operated by two different companies, and run reasonably frequently (every 30-60 minutes). Please check the updated time schedule from e.g. https://www.highwaybus.com/gp/inbound/index?lang=EN
    •  As of this writing, our information says that the bus times on Monday are 7:15, 7:45, 8:15, 8:25, 8:45, 8:55, 9:15, 9:25, 9:45, 10:15, 10:45, 11:15, 11:45, 12:15, 12:45, 13:15, 14:15, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, 18:15, 19:15, 20:15, 22:15.
    • See https://bus.fujikyu.co.jp/highway/detail/id/1 for a bus-station map from one of the bus companies. There are several different destinations, but as far as I know all of them pass through Mt. Fuji station.
    • If you get off at a wrong bus stop you do not need to panick; the conference venue is within easy reach of the taxis from multiple bus stops / Fujikyu train stations.
  • Train (approximately 2 hours):
    • At the Shinjuku station, you change to JR Chuo line, take a limited express to Otsuki station. The express trains are called "Kaiji", "Azusa" and "Super Azusa". Note that not all express trains stop at Otsuki.
    • At Otsuki station, you change to the "Fuji-kyuko line" and get off at Fujisan station.
    • If you take a JR train from the airport to the Shinjuku station and then to take another train to Mt. Fuji station, there is no need go outside the train station.
    • There are limited number of JR express trains called "Fuji-kaiyu" which goes from Shinjuku directly to Fujikyu, see https://www.fujikyu-railway.jp/fujikaiyuu/.

Mt. Fuji Station -> Conference Venue

  • Taxi: Please take a taxi from the train station. It takes approximately 10 minutes. The taxi drivers are supposed to know "Fujikenshujyo" or "Jinzai", but you might show this image to the driver. Otherwise it is always useful to print out the google map in advance, and/or install map app to your phone (such as maps.me).
  • Walk: You can also walk to the train station. It takes approximately 30 minutes. If you have a map it is easy to find the way.
  • Bus: While I do not necessarily recommend it, there are also buses from the Mt. Fuisan station to a bus stop near the conference venue. For example, some busses stop at Sengenjinjya-mae (浅間神社前), which is very close to the conference venue. See time schedule https://bus.fujikyu.co.jp/pdf/rosen/id21_up_timetable_202310.pdf
